ST. ALBANS — The St. Albans Police Department arrested a city man Saturday morning for an alleged attempted murder.
According to police, officers investigated a stabbing that occurred at approximately 2:29 a.m. in front of the Breakyard Quick Stop gas station on Federal Street.
Police said the victim, Alex Rodrigues, 25, was stabbed multiple times, and was subsequently transported by AmCare Ambulance to the Northwestern Medical Center (NMC) emergency room. According to police, Rodrigues was stabilized at NMC and transferred to the Fletcher Allen Medical Center.
A hospital spokesperson this morning said Rodrigues was in fair condition.
At 6:52 a.m. on Saturday, a team of uniformed and plain-clothed St. Albans Police officers arrested Derrick Jones, 30, of Lake Street in St. Albans City, at 8 Hoyt St. According to police, Jones stays at the Hoyt Street residence on occasion. Police said he has a lengthy criminal record.
Jones is being charged with attempted second-degree murder, police said. According to the court, arraignment was set for 1 p.m. today.
